took the ferry to st. john & ran into these two characters en route. that would be my one of my main wingmen Jonathan on the right, and his buddy Todd “the toddler” (ps. note to self keep that one in the roladex of awesome nicknames for friends named Todd.)

if this is all it takes to run for government here i should be the mayor in no time.

followed jonathan’s advice & hit up the st. john visitor’s center for a map to get to Solomon Beach. I pretty much walked this path for about 20 mins… in flip flops.

was pretty stoked to see this at the end of my trek.

sidenote: please excuse the mismatched nail polish. you all know how i like to match. unfortunately, my manicures are short lived working at the shack. 

i heard a noise behind me when i was walking back to the ferry. i immediately think rats, or danger, when i hear shit rustling behind me. but um no, just some wild donkeys trailing behind me. no bigs.

i stopped a couple times to try & let the donkeys pass me. but the donkeys would just stop when i stopped and look at me. eventually they passed me and ran ahead to eat some plants. guess they’re vegetarians too.

grabbed a pineapple, mango, orange smoothie from this spot. fucking delicious. hit the ferry home and bragged via twitter about my donkey sighting. someone tweeted back, “geez what’s next from you down there, a fucking unicorn sighting?”

mm. never know. life is pretty magical sometimes.

at any rate…

guess i looked kinda dodgy when i boarded, ‘cos when i unpacked my 68lb (!!) bag i found this little gem.

first meal on the island, jerk chicken sandwich. and at my new job.

found this at the drugstore. this has to be dead stock, there’s no way they still make zinka. i used to rock pink zinka nose coat & stussy 8ball t’s in the 80′s.

kind of like the hills, but island style. the roads are trife, the “safari bus” (aka island cabs) is even more trife. i’ll have to snap a flick of one of those bad boys soon so you can see how gangster public transportation is here.

my 2nd day on the island i got hijacked by my co-workers and hopped the ferry to St.John. kinda like the staten island ferry but no lady liberty or guidos. well actually nothing like shaolin but i’ve never known any other ferry so work with me here people.

3 hours of happy hour drinking later… the only thing i can afford on this island is miller lights & camel lights. oddly enough parliaments are only in softpack & that’s just a no-go situaish for me.

this here would be my co-worker josh, he likes to crack jokes about me being old & refer to me as his boss. i like to tell people he’s my retarded cousin. he’s into blondes & pissing people off.

day 3, woke up @ 8am & finally found the beach. secret harbour beach. i fell in love with it. i like secrets, i like beaches. it’s my favourite beach so far.

first time in the water. so warm, so clear, so perfect.

this is why i moved here.

i’m surviving on the one duffy’s meal a day plan here, alternating only with $5 foot longs after 5pm from Subway. this above would be the bbq chicken burrito, it’s no chipotle salad bowl but that little monster filled me up nicely for the day.

there’s a bunch of stray cats outside my office, i call this one Chuck Bass because he likes to come up & meow at me & then runaway. that & ‘cos he’s dead sexy.

another duffy’s daily meal…this would be the jerk chicken nachos. bangin’.

so to celebrate my newly acquired digs, i woke up fellow co-worker pictured above by screaming “HEY WE’VE GOT 20 MINUTES TO MAKE THE FERRY TO WOODY’S HAPPY HOUR!” and we ran (almost literally) to the bar for breakfast before we hopped the ferry… jaeger has come back into my life apparently. good ol’ blackout juice.

homey josh & i decided to step it up a bit since we’re celebrating my new home, or since that was my excuse anyway & we went to the local spot in st. john that had tap beers. 

so somewhere between those micro brews and this shot, we played a beer trivia game, i knocked over a beer, and by the time we got to woodys we both ordered a round of miller lites & tequila shots. great minds think a like.

yeah so um we made new friends on the way back to st. thomas.

i can only imagine the dialogue between these guys & myself at this point.
