no secret i love drew barrymore. maybe it’s a pisces thing. where you think if you had a chance encounter with her in line for the bathroom you’d somehow bond & share lip gloss & talk about boys. 

on  a side note, i’ve been collecting magazines with her in them for over a decade or so now. magazines are my vice. my lifeline to constant imaging. although there’s plenty of free images on the internet.. just something about owning them in print makes them all together that more special to me. my FACE & iD magazine collection is out of hand. that one $25 issue of big magazine all of lauren hutton, a prized possession. needless to say i’ve carried on two pretty long term relationships in ny w. two news stands. Lafayette Smoke Shop on Lafayette & Spring, they know me by name. used to hang a picture i took of them in their shop. they knew i was good for $20 a month in the late 90’s w. my FACE & iD habits. plus anything with kate on the cover. then my new spot this year has been the news stand on A & 4th/5th. i haven’t been there since i lost my job because it breaks my heart to look at so many glossy images i can’t own… i went in to buy a NY magazine because i need to find stuff to do in NY this month so i don’t become a complete hermit. Ben, my magazine dude, told me i looked sad, told me to pick any magazine i wanted and pay him back a $1 a week. said he knows i’ll be good for it.  and i almost broke into tears. walking back, bagel in hand, magazines proudly tucked under arm, it hit me… how in my current state of not knowing what’s going to happen to me (job, apartment, life) that i’ve been pretty good to people. that i find the most joy in taking care of other people and making them happy… and that for once in my life maybe it’s time to give up some of this stubborn irish/italian pride & accept help from people i’ve been good to. learn a little equilibrium, learn that although i’m not a taker by nature, that it’s okay to receive a little help sometimes. now if only i could figure out how to ask for it… 

sorry this somehow started off about drew barrymore and ended up about me… maybe it’s ‘cos we’re both pisces. and overly emotional, and highly intuitive… something like that.
